Captain Smartypants has performed all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond, thrilling, delighting and alarming audiences from Washington DC to San Francisco.
In 2004, the Pants toured with their astonishing CD ‘UnderCover’ which was touted as ‘… the best CD ever made in the history of music’ by Hyperbole Magazine. ‘UnderCover’ and ‘Fruit of the Month Club’ is available here and also on iTunes and CD Baby.
Their last three shows ‘Trousers of Terror,’ ‘PowerPants!’ and ‘Cirque du Slaque’ played to packed houses in Seattle and beyond. Their latest show ‘Air Smarty’, which featured guest artists Waxie Moon and Bobbi Kotula, just concluded its run at the historic Columbia City Theatre on Rainier Avenue this past June.
Captain Smartypants has performed with Ann Wilson, Melissa Manchester, Megan Mullally, Kristin Chenoweth and Lea Delaria, and was Seattle’s warm-up act for Margaret Cho when she filmed “The Notorious C.H.O.” in 2002. The link to their performance of ‘Kislev Cowboys’ (aka ‘Brokeback Dreidel’) has received over 500,000 hits on YouTube and was featured on NPR’s ‘Hearing Voices’ in November of 2008.
Captain Smartypants all live together in a treehouse in Yelm, where they weave all their own clothing out of wild vines. Their favorite color is ‘plaid’ and they eat nothing but circus peanuts and fiddlehead ferns. Eric Lane Barnes, Assistant Artistic Director of Seattle Men’s Chorus, is their trepid leader.
