Fruit of the Month Club is a collection of songs sung by Zipper! and Captain Smartypants, the two small ensembles from Seattle Men's Chorus. You may notice that many of these songs (Available, Garbage, The Letter Song, Mood Vertigo) present a seemingly jaded view of The World of Love. This does not mean that the singers or the author of these songs does not believe in The World of Love. It means, rather, that it is far more interesting to perform a song which presents a problem than it is to perform a song which present no problem. More simply stated, complaining is funnier than pleasantries. If it helps, you may wish to add, "…but then he saw the error of his ways, sought professional help, and lived happily ever after," as a postscript to each song.

Some of these songs were written specifically for Zipper! and Captain Smartypants. Other songs existed previously in different versions: Love Don't Be a Stranger, Fairy Tales and The Letter Song, for instance, are from the musical show Fairy Tales. The song Fruit Cocktail was written specifically for this CD. It is best enjoyed while wearing a red velvet fez in your bachelor pad, or while wheeling freely down the open road in a minty-green Thunderbird convertible.
